Las Vegas Cocktails written by ME! What? Wow, what a pinch-me moment.
It feels so good to finally share the news. The book is called Las Vegas Cocktails and you can grab your copy right here on Amazon.
I wanted to make this blog post to share the process of writing a book and answer a few questions I’ve been asked.
There is a lot to get into so let’s jump right in.
At the beginning of last year, I got an email from my book publishers asking if I’d be interested in writing about Las Vegas Cocktails. I thought it was spammy at first because being asked to write a book seemed too good to be true.
I always thought about writing a book and it was on my list of to-dos. Do you have a dream to-do list?
My first thought, “how in the world do I write a book?” I was really thinking, “How do I write about cocktails?”
I was very open to writing a book, but I certainly did not expect to write a book about cocktails. Fast forward to today and I am thrilled that I had the pleasure of writing about one of my favorite cities in the world – Las Vegas.
This book is a collection of over 100 recipes from some of the best places in Las Vegas – on and off the strip. I had the honor of speaking with world-renowned mixologists and bartenders and definitely learned a thing or two about this industry.
Cocktails – you just throw a few ingredients like some sugar and liquor in a glass, right?
Omg no no no no sweetie pie. There is an art to cocktails and if you ever order one when you’re out, know that someone put time and love into your creation.
How do you make a cocktail?
Cocktails are like art in a glass. There is a method. A creation formed through imagination and skill.
This book gives you a step by step guide to creating some of the best cocktails in Vegas. There is a drink for every palette in this book. You name it, we have it – cocktails with gin, cocktails with tequila, cocktails with vodka, cocktails with rum, etc. Look forward to making old fashioned cocktails, classic cocktails, cocktails with Vermouth, and Campari.
Learn the difference between apéritif and digestif. In Italian, these words are best known as aperitivo and digestivo.
If you’ve ever wondered how to make 50 of the most popular cocktails, now is your chance.
Las Vegas Cocktails is divided into six different sections
The history of Las Vegas
The book starts off with an explanation of how Las Vegas grew from an Old Spanish Road town to a global destination. Las Vegas is named Sin City and I broke down how and why we got this phrase. This city is built upon, and known for, gambling, drinking, and dancing. However, it’s not all sinful here. Las Vegas is full of opportunities, glamour, magic, and beauty.
The stories I share throughout the book share just how beautiful this magical city is.
How to Set Up Your Bar Cart
If this is your first time making cocktails, you’re probably feeling overwhelmed with where to even begin. Luckily, this book breaks down everything you need in order to make perfect cocktails. It all starts with a great bar cart set up. If you don’t have a bar cart, don’t worry! This is just a fancy way for people to have an at-home bartending setup.
It’s a cheeky little way to display all of your ingredients so you can get super fancy with decorations like accessories, tools, glasses, and mixers.
I broke down all the tools you’ll need for different cocktails in this book and it’s a perfect guide for creating an at-home bartending workspace.
The Strip
Did I mention that there are over 100 recipes in this book? Some are in the Strip section and the others are located in the Downtown section or the Off the Strip section of the book. The cocktails under the Strip section are all drinks from some of the most famous hotels and casinos.
The sections of the book make it easy to sip on cocktails from anywhere in the world and feel like you are in the heart of Las Vegas.
Off the Strip
If you’ve been following the blog and Olive Brunette social media, you know I preach that there is more to life than just the strip. I’ve coined this as my motto! 🙂 It’s true. There are so many wonderful parts of Las Vegas that people don’t even know exist. There are bars and restaurants off the strip that are home to some very tasty cocktails.
Downtown
Boy oh boy is the downtown area transforming. I absolutely love visiting downtown for pictures and now that there are so many bars and restaurants, it’s my favorite place to grab a drink with friends. This book guides you to some of the greatest places downtown. But don’t worry if you can’t visit, try these drinks from the comfort of your home (or your friends home) and you’ll mentally transport yourself to Downtown Las Vegas.
Where to Eat
Hi, nice to meet you! My name is Sivan and I LOVE to eat. Who doesn’t? We can’t be friends if you don’t like food. Of course, I had to add my go-to spots to hit up in between drinks or when you want something substantial in your stomach before calling it a night.
The Cocktail Pictures in the Book
I’m happy to report that I took almost all of the pictures in the book. If they are not my pictures, it will be stated in the book. I got to be up close and personal with a lot of cocktails and I am not mad about it. Let me just mention that there were days I tried MANY cocktails – one day I counted 10! That’s a lot of alcohol.
They are all delicious drinks that I know you will love to make. I admit some are prettier than others, some are sweeter, saltier, and spicier than the next.
Have fun making these drinks and bookmark your favorites so that you know exactly which ones to come back to when guests arrive.
All in all, don’t leave your drinking until the next visit to Las Vegas. Trust me when I say, there is not a bad drink in this book. Taste for yourself. Try these cocktails in the comfort of your home, and imagine you’re enjoying them here in Las Vegas.
My hope is that you, too, can learn how to become a mixologist.
So, grab your copy today, and let’s make Las Vegas cocktails together!
