las vegas tourist attractions

Whether you are on a solo trip, out with your girlfriends, or taking that much-needed family vacation, Las Vegas has activities for everyone.

If you’ve never been to Las Vegas, we recommend walking the strip. There is no better way to get a feel for this city than to walk on Las Vegas Boulevard. You will most definitely find something that interests you and your party.

Travel in and out of hotels to experience the hotel’s themes and find a restaurant or bar that speaks to you. There are so many to choose from.

The hotels might look close, but some require a lot of walking so bring water and a good pair of shoes.

The Best Las Vegas Attractions

Here are some general tips for walking the strip:

  • Wear comfortable shoes
  • Stay hydrated
  • Take advantage of the monorail
  • Walk-in and out of the hotels
  • Don’t be afraid to ask where to go
  • Go with the flow and stumble upon something fun

It can be really overwhelming heading into a new city so having a list of must-see attractions is so helpful.

Leave a comment with which places you plan on visiting. we would love to hear what you think!

Las Vegas Attraction Recommendations

High Roller Observation Wheel at the LINQ

Everyone knows that this is always my number one recommendation.

I recommend checking out the High Roller because it gives you a feel for where you are and what’s around you. My favorite thing to do in a new city is to get an idea of where I am in relation to my hotel so that I don’t feel stuck. Maybe it’s just a personal thing… regardless, taking a ride on the High Roller is 30 minutes and gives you a beautiful view of the strip, downtown, suburbs, and mountains.

If you’re coming from the East Coast and looking forward to an In-N-Out burger, this is where it’s at.

Eiffel Tower Viewing Deck at the Paris

This is another place I recommend visiting if you would like a view of the strip. It’s beautiful at night with all of the lights, a view of the Bellagio fountain, maybe some champagne if you’re on a romantic getaway, Instagram pictures… you picking up what I’m putting down?!

Tickets are inexpensive if purchased in advance so make sure to take advantage of any online offers. The ride up is not as scary as you might think and it all happens very quickly.

You can find the entrance towards the casino section of the Paris hotel near the restaurant, Mon Ami Gabi (great dinner recommendation!).

Eiffel Tower

Bellagio Fountain

One of the most popular free things to do in Las Vegas is to check out the fountains at the Bellagio. With over 30 different songs, you can watch the fountains whirl across the 8.5-acre lake. Experience a show every half hour from 3 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday – Friday and every 15 minutes from 8 p.m. – midnight.

If you’re visiting over a weekend or holiday, the show runs every half hour from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. and then changes to every 15 minutes after that. There is plenty of standing/viewing room so don’t worry about finding a spot to watch.

The Mob Museum

If you’re a history nut, check out the Mob Museum downtown to discover the most notorious Las Vegas mobsters. Their interactive exhibit makes the experience really fun and exciting for every age. For in-depth information about this exhibit check out their website for tickets and hours.

Gondola Ride at the Venetian

If you cannot make it to Italy for a romantic getaway, check out the Venetian for a romantic evening. To be specific, take a gondola ride through the Grand Canal Shoppes as a talented gondolier sets the mood with beautiful tunes.

The ride doesn’t just stay inside. If the weather is nice (usually is!) then you can experience the beautiful architecture and the Las Vegas Strip all while sitting on a gondola. A private, two-passenger ride is $75.80.

Valley of Fire

Just 50 miles Northeast of the strip is a stunning drive and beautiful landscape. The Valley of Fire is one of Nevada’s oldest state parks that is home to 36,000 acres.

You will find bright red rocks, windy roads, and amazing rock formations. The best part about visiting is that it takes an hour to drive and gives you a little escape from the hustle and bustle of the strip for some incredible views.

Red Rock Canyon

If you’re not much of a hiker but love taking in Views, then Red Rock has the best scenic drive for you. Visit the visitor center upon arrival for maps and information.

When ready, take the 13-mile drive with the best look-out spots and picture-perfect moments.

If you are an adventurous spirit, Red Rock has 26 hikes and trails that you can download from their map here. Bring a camera and lots of water! My personal favorite is a two-mile hike to Ice Box Canyon.

Hoover Dam

I remember when we moved to Las Vegas, the Hoover Dam was all the rage to visit. It is technically on the border of Nevada and Arizona, but if you’re in Las Vegas take a trip to see the highest concrete arch dam in the United States.

It really is such a cool sightseeing destination with a ton of history. Check out their tag on Instagram for some pretty clever shots at this famous attraction. Might give you an idea or two for an awesome photo op.

These are only eight out of the MANY Las Vegas attractions that I have decided to write about. There are SO many Las Vegas attractions to visit.

If there is something not on the list that you would like me to mention, I would love to hear it.
