5 Things That Sum Up Las Vegas

Your Vegas vacation just got a whole lot better.

Las Vegas has gained — undeservedly or not — notoriety for its casinos. It is, after all, one of the casino capitals of the world. But there is so much more to Sin City than its glitzy gaming scene, and its other name, The Entertainment Capital of the World, is proof that the city offers other things aside from chips and cards. Besides, why would we fall in love with Vegas if it didn’t offer anything else?

That being said, here are five things that sum up Las Vegas. And no, casinos are certainly not included.

Good Food

Vegas is known for good food, and it has a seemingly endless collection of restaurants for everyone. There are high-end establishments, like Joël Robuchon, Picasso, and Morimoto Las Vegas. Then there are a host of “secret” spots where locals frequently dine such as the Forbes-recommended Salute and Other Mama. For a good Sunday brunch, you can check out Andiron Steak & Sea in Downtown Summerlin. For an appetizing Asian fusion menu, you can go to Chada Thai. The options are never-ending, and you’ll never run out of good places to eat on your Vegas vacation.

Hikers’ Paradise in Vegas

Only true-blue hikers know this, but Vegas is a hikers’ paradise. The moderately difficult Las Vegas Overlook is certainly worth exploring, as is Echo Canyon via the Fossil Ridge Loop. Plus, there are plenty of hiking trails near Vegas such as the Red Rock Canyon, Crystal Springs Boardwalk, and White Domes Loop.

If you’re interested in any Las Vegas hikes, 10 Adventures has a very detailed and accurate region guide. Download GPS coordinates, route guides, and information about each trail before your next adventure.

Shows Everywhere

In Las Vegas, there is a show for everyone. A handful of these shows, like the breathtaking Michael Jackson One by Cirque Du Soleil, honor the biggest stars of the music industry, which makes perfect sense given the city’s rich musical tradition that began in the mid-1950s. Vegas, of course, is well-known for paying tribute to legendary musical acts, and this, in turn, has inspired other formats to do the same, giving fans various ways to connect with industry icons. FoxyBingo has several games that honor music’s biggest names, including Michael Jackson King of Pop, which like the Cirque Du Soleil show ensures that fans can continue to interact with the famous singer. Vegas is a city where a music star’s light never goes out. Naturally, there are tribute shows for other luminaries like Elvis Presley (All Shook Up), The Bee Gees (Australian Bee Gees), and The Beatles (The Beatles Love, also by Cirque Du Soleil).

Sights All-Around

Trust us when we say this: Las Vegas is a beautiful city. It is home to a lot of must-see destinations, like the Grand Canal at the Venetian Casino, the Fountains of Bellagio, the Hoover Dam, and Paris Las Vegas. There are plenty of others, of course, and the best way to discover them on your Vegas vacation is to visit Vegas.

History and Tradition

Sin City has a rich history apart from music, and you can get to know them by visiting a variety of museums all across the city. US News recommends the Neon Museum in North Las Vegas Boulevard, a one-of-a-kind gallery of more than 200 pieces of old Vegas signage, all laid out on the desert floor. The Mob Museum in East Stewart Avenue is worth a visit, too, as it’ll take you back to Vegas’s rather dark past.

But as the adage goes, “To see is to believe.” And with that in mind, we highly recommend that you pay Sin City a visit as it is the only way you can truly appreciate Vegas for all its glory.

I hope your Vegas vacation was worth-while and you left with lots of fun memories. What was your favorite thing to do?
